Paradise Kids Australia, The Rainbow House & the Rev. Dr Ian Mavor Foundation regard your privacy as an important part of our relationship. We comply with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This Policy sets out the types of personal information we collect, the purposes for which we collect it and how we hold, use and disclose personal information. By using our website, participating in one of our programs, purchasing a product, donating, fundraising, volunteering or providing your personal information to us, you agree to the terms of this Policy.

collection & use of information

In order to use the Paradise Kids Australia website, we may require information from you in order to administer what you have requested whilst providing the best service possible. If you do not provide us with the information that we request, we may not be able to provide you with our services and/or products or administer your request.

We collect your personal information to allow us to perform our charitable functions and activities. These may include…

  • registering you and your child/children as participant/s in one of our programs and/or providing a product to you and your child/children.

  • processing your donations and/or purchases from us.

  • registering your fundraising activities or participation in one of our fundraising activities.

  • registering you as a volunteer.

  • responding to your queries and comments.

We may also use your personal information to provide you with updates about bookings, purchases, our work, donations, fundraising activities and events, or to conduct research about your opinion of us and our activities. You can opt-out of receiving these by… 1: stating NO when asked (on our forms and correspondence) 2: contacting us via email to be removed from our correspondence lists.

Any information collected by Paradise Kids Australia is collected via correspondence from you or your company. This may be via the telephone, email, mail, forms and directly in person or through our website. If, at any time, you provide personal or other information about someone other than yourself, you warrant that you have that person’s consent to provide such information for the purpose specified.

storage & security of information

Any information we collect from you is kept securely. Personal information is only retained for as long as is necessary for the purposes identified above or as required by law. We will take all reasonable steps to protect the personal information that we hold from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure including by means of firewalls, password access, secure servers, encryption of credit card transactions and confidentiality agreements.

The information you provide us via the internet, in person or by post, you do so at your own risk. We cannot accept responsibility for misuse or loss of, or unauthorised access to, your personal information where the security of information is not within our control. You acknowledge that we are not responsible for the privacy or security practices of any third party (including third parties that we are permitted to disclose your personal information to in accordance with this policy or any applicable laws).

Our Grief Explorer’s Program does not keep any transcripts or records of participants’ work for analysis but we do collect sensitive information about the children and families that we help. This information is held with the utmost security and we do not disclose it unless the grounds for disclosure are satisfied. Paradise Kids Australia staff and volunteers are bound by confidentiality requirements when dealing with you and your family’s personal information. Participation in our Grief Explorer’s Program includes discussions that are personal in nature. You acknowledge that your personal information may be shared within this group setting that the personal information shared to you is not to be freely shared with others outside of the group setting.

disclosure of information

In order to administer your request, provide a service and/or product we may disclose your personal information to the following third parties…

  • service providers engaged by us to perform functions, provide services and/or products on our behalf, such as web services and storage systems, the processing of donations, insurance providers and mail delivery systems.

  • volunteers helping to provide our services, such as our Grief Explorer’s Program and @Home Program.

  • other participants of Grief Explorers that are privy to the personal information shared by you or your child within the group setting.

  • Government Authorities processing Blue Card applications and the screening of volunteers.

  • relevant authority or enforcement bodies as part of any investigation into you or your activity. For example, if we have reason to suspect that you have committed a breach of any of our terms and conditions, or have otherwise been engaged in any unlawful activity, and we reasonably believe that disclosure is necessary to the Police, any relevant authority or enforcement body, or your Internet Service Provider or network administrator.

  • as required or permitted by any law (including the Privacy Act).

We will not disclose your personal information to third parties unless we have reasonable grounds to believe…

  • you have authorised us to do so.

  • your safety, or the safety of others in the community, is at risk.

  • we are required or permitted by law to do so.

If we provide your personal information to a third party, we generally require the third party to protect your personal information in the same way we do. The collection and use of your information by such third parties may be subject to separate privacy and security policies. If you suspect any misuse or loss of, or unauthorised access to, your personal information, please let us know immediately.

access of information

Subject to some exceptions in the Privacy Act, you have the right to seek access to, update and seek correction to the personal information we hold about you. If you make an access request, we will respond to your request within a reasonable period after the request is made. In order to respond to your request, we may ask you to verify your identity.

If you have created an account through use of Paradise Kids Australia or The Rainbow House website, you will be able to access and update your login details and information online. We request that you keep your information as current as possible so that we may continue to improve our service to you. Those without an account through use of Paradise Kids Australia or The Rainbow House website wanting to correct, update, delete or deactivate personal information please email us.

changes to our privacy policy

We reserve the right to modify and/or update our Privacy Policy. If this happens, we will post an updated copy on our website and other places we deem appropriate. This is so you remain aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. Following that posting, your continued relationship with us will constitute your acceptance of the terms of our modified and/or updated policy.
