Description
Drought is part of the Australian way of life. As of late 2019, many regions of Australia are still in significant drought, and rainfall records have showed a marked decrease in precipitation levels since 1994. When natural disasters occur children can grieve the loss of a home, the land that has been in their family for generations, farm animals or pets, new school clothes or shoes, and often their previous way of life, due to the financial stress their parents face. Children often feel guilty about the losses, even though it is not their fault. Male suicides in Australia are on the rise and about 45 men a week take their own lives.
This is a story of hope seen through a child’s perspective and how simple parcels sent to struggling farmers or their wives can change lives. When adults and children grieve with support they are better able to move through the tasks of grieving into hope and resilience.
